The Certified Public Manager® (CPM) program began in Georgia in 1976 and was soon endorsed by other states as a model for training and developing professional public managers.  The Kentucky CPM Program was first established in 1985 through the Governmental Services Center (GSC) and Kentucky State University (KSU), where it continues today as part of the Personnel Cabinet.

KSCPM is a member of the American Academy of Certified Public Managers® and the National Certified Public Managers® Consortium.  The Academy has membership from 22 Societies throughout the country.  

The Consortium counts among its membership 41 federal, state, and local training organizations, 37 of which are fully accredited and actively providing training to program participants.
